LAST TIME OUT

The Baton Rouge Kingfish lost their second straight game to the Mid-South Monarchs, 3-2, last night on the road at Landers Center.

After a scoreless first period, Baton Rouge drew first blood 2:07 into the second. Jason Brancheau connected with Tyler Williams on a two-on-one, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. However, Mid-South responded less than 90 seconds later, burying a rebound on a netmouth scramble. The game headed to the third tied, 1-1.

Six minutes into the third period, Mid-South found themselves on a long five-on-three powerplay thanks to Kingfish penalty trouble. The Monarchs capitalized, surging ahead, 2-1, at 6:24. Three minutes later, a miscommunication at Baton Rouge's attacking blue line led to a Mid-South breakaway, and the Monarchs jumped ahead, 3-1.

Scott Shorrock pulled the Kingfish back within one goal on a beautiful snap shot with 6:28 remaining in the third. The Kingfish proceeded to launch everything they had at the Monarchs down the stretch but were unable to muster an equalizer.

Mid-South converted on two of its nine powerplay opportunities. Baton Rouge went scoreless in five chances on the man advantage and racked up 51 penalty minutes.

WILLIAMS OFF TO A HOT START

Forward Tyler Williams is currently riding a four-game point streak. He's the only Baton Rouge skater to record a point in each of the first four games.

Williams opened the scoring for the Kingfish last night with his second marker of the season. The Lake Superior State product is tied for the team lead in points (5) and assists (3).

Williams, 26, is in his third pro season and his first in the FPHL. He spent his first two campaigns with the SPHL's Knoxville Ice Bears, notching 80 points (31g, 49a) in 2026-27 in 119 total games, postseason included.

THIRD PERIOD WOES

After being a terrific third-period team on opening weekend against Monroe, Baton Rouge has struggled in the final frame this weekend against Mid-South.

Last weekend, the Kingfish outscored the Moccasins, 8-1, across both third periods en route to a pair of 6-2 victories.

This weekend, Mid-South has outscored Baton Rouge, 4-1, in the third period.

The Monarchs erased a 3-2 deficit on Friday night to defeat the Kingfish, 4-3. Last night, with the game tied, 1-1, after two, Mid-South outscored Baton Rouge, 2-1, in the game's final 20 minutes to win, 3-2.

SCOUTING THE MONARCHS

Mid-South has won three straight games and moved into first place in the Delta Division.

Forward Darion Benchich has been on a tear for the Monarchs. He's posted three consecutive three point outings and leads Mid-South with 11 points (7g, 4a).

Thomas Nappier has won both games in net  for Mid-South. He's stopped 81 of 86 Kingfish shots on goal.
