COX'S TWO GOALS LEAD KINGFISH PAST MONARCHS

BATON ROUGE, La. -- On Sunday afternoon, the Baton Rouge Kingfish dominated the Mid-South Monarchs on home ice, grabbing a 5-2 victory and improving to 3-2-0 on the season.

Things got off to a quick start for the Monarchs at Raising Cane's River Center, with the visitors scoring a powerplay goal at the 4:55 mark. The Kingfish responded just over three minutes later with a goal by Jake Cox to tie it up early in the first period. Baton Rouge then took the lead on a goal by Nick Ketola, assisted by Cox and Tobias Odjick.

In the second period, the Fish got to work early. Jason Brancheau scored at 4:34 with the help of Ketola and Scott Shorrock. Seven minutes later, Cox notched his second marker of the night to make it 4-1 Kingfish.

The Monarchs got a goal back just over six minutes into the third, but the visitors would never draw any closer. Baton Rouge sealed the win on an empty-netter from Tyler Williams with two minutes left on the board.

The Kingfish continue their season on the road this Friday, Oct. 30, out west in California, facing the Stockton Thunder at Adventist Health Arena.
